DOS) hoyah and I were talking about reading comprehension in fics and got to thinking that it'd be hilarious if people had to take quizzes on them afterwards: 1. did hankyung make heechul cry by (a) running over his cat, (b) losing his stuff, (c) breaking up sj, or (d) all of the above? 2. what did heechul mean when he said "it's okay. it's time i got a new phone anyway."? (open-ended, 15 pts. one point per word used in your explanation. negative points if you go over.) This a not-so-oblique reference to my latest HanChul fic (do not read if avoiding fandom drama and angst, it is both because I am wretched). TRES) I AM SO SICK OF WRITING YOU HAVE NO IDEA. My life goes in cycles which basically consist of me whining that I haven't written in forever and I wish I could because I feel empty without it and me whining that omfg I am so tired of writing why is there so much why does it never end AUGH. :( Apologies for subjecting you to a minor glimpse of it. I think I'll go read books/fic instead. Yay, passive activities! QUATRO) I should make a post talking about Sherlock Holmes and how much I loved it. But I am lazy. I LOVED IT. There was action and mystery and gay romance! Holmes and Watson were the ultimate bickering married couple, but yet I loved Mary! And that other girl, who did stuff! And I'm very happy about the explanations and the references to the Professor - eee, true to the books and a set-up for the sequel. :3 This movie needs fic for me to read. Where do we point people when they ask us what's so great about QMi? What do we say when they ask why we ship them? Where do we even start? Considering the sheer magnitude of QMi interaction and QMi love, we thought we could make it a group effort. :D We're hoping to compile all our contributions in this one post and then have all the material sorted and organized for the Ultimate QMi Primer™. (My corporate!AU is undergoing beta right now and the entire process is terrifying. Longfic is hard and it is scary. I'm unused to this! /clutches at people's hands. Hopefully it gets easier with practice but a part of me also laughs hysterically and thinks: Like hell I'd put myself through this again? I will never break 10k again. ;__;) # On the topic of HP fic, let me rec this incredible H/D fic: Trajectories Harry/Draco, PG, drama/plot/8th year fic, 35000 words Rembrandt's phrase in describing his painting: "Die meeste ende di naetureelste beweechgelickheijt", can be translated as greatest, most natural movement (emotion or motive). ( Why I love it and why you should read it! ) # While I'm reccing fics, I just recced a Calvin & Hobbes fic to mytigerhobbes and since it's a fic that I love beyond words, I thought I should share. It's...moving, and a little sad, but hopeful too, on how kids grow up. Totally gen, but wrenching. Tissue warning. Seriously. Reminiscence Calvin & Hobbes, PG, gen, 2469 words Calvin is all grown up... how has the passage of time affected him and those around him? # I am also loling at my brother knowing all the words to Sorry Sorry and dancing to it. Fucked up and bitter and possessed of no filter between brain and mouth, but that didn't make the unthinkable things he'd said to Dean any less sincere. Dean had had four years on his own to think about the mark Sam had left on his throat, the starry look in his brother's eyes that night at the drive-in, Sam telling him, I know it's not just me. Dean had had to bury it all away because it was true, every goddamn word of it. There was nothing Sam wanted that Dean didn't want too. But Sam had been gone, so Dean couldn't let it matter. Takes the narrator from the latter and uses the book's style perfectly to tell a heartbreaking story that rings with truth. * Battlestar Galactica/The Handmaid's Tale Blessed Be The Fruit by daybreak777 A BSG AU set in the world of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Fantastic - it takes the show's gender and reproductive issues and follows them to their logical - and horrifying - conclusions. Brilliantly done. I love that it's Caprica, and that Sonja and Boomer and Athena are involved, and that Ellen and Saul are still together and still as impotent to effect change as they ever were. * House/Supernatural My Brother's Keeper by ducks_in_a_row Amusing, in-character House/SPN crossover. Sam's in a zombie-induced coma, Dean knows why and how to fix it, but House and Cuddy won't let him remove Sam from the hospital. Hijinks and banter ensue. * Iron Man/Spider-Man Tabloid by basingstoke "What sort of facilities do you have at home, Spider-Man?" Dr. Richards asked. "Do you make your own costumes?" / "Uh, yeah. I have a sewing machine from--" from his aunt's garage, an old Singer with three stitches. "Yeah, I make my own gear." He used plain old swimsuit material from the store, fused on a dumpster-dived ironing board with rubber webbing for strength. Took him about six hours per piece, which was why it was such a BITCH when some jerk shredded one. / "That isn't mechanized?" Dr. Richards looked surprised. "But your security system--what kind of server do you have?" / "Uh..." Peter looked at the robots, stamping out tracer after tracer. Interesting plot with some good Max/Alec angst (and the usual whumpage sigh). ~~ Friday Night Lights* Not Flesh and Blood by queenofthorns Eric would rather spend an afternoon getting relationship advice Mac Magill than let the truth out of the deepest, darkest corner of his unspoken thoughts: he loves his boys. All of 'em, jackasses and smartasses, benchwarmers and superstars. He loves them for their occasional moments of sweetness and their constant low-level idiocy; he loves them for the boys they are and for the men they might become. But there are only two of them who've ever made Eric think If I had a son, this is who I'd want him to be. One was Jason Street. The other is hunched over a plate of untouched food, Eric's daughter by his side, politely listening to Buddy Garrity say something or other that's totally out of place. This totally made me bawl my face off at work (much like the episode [spoilers for 4.05 "the Son"]). But when Nyota steps on a sharp stone and falls, Jim helps her up without question, and he asks her deferentially whether she'd like him to give her a hand, with no innuendo, and without just assuming he's welcome. Have a little faith. ♥ ( TL;DR thoughts. You may disagree. ) ETA: Take a deep breath, guys. Let it out. Fans blowing things out of proportion is half the reason things got so ridiculous. ETA 2: This is my stance on the whole issue, and I have nothing else to say about it. Imma just do my shit now, yeah? Until final word comes through. No more discussion or dwelling on the subject. I love the boys, all fifteen of them. I love them whether they are in a boy band or not. I love them for their love for each other, so I want most for their relationships with each other to be okay after all of this mess. That is more important to me than how the contract or legal issues work out. Every one of them is human and fallible, susceptible to hurt and prone to mistakes, and every one of them has my support. In the end, I just want all fifteen of them to be happy and to love each other. The other shit pales in comparison. 04:29 pm meiface [Link]	incoherent fandom stuff and a Christmas request post! ☆ So I was looking over some old comments and came to the realization that I like 'em cute but retarded: mardigrasmaven: Donghae seems like the type to accidentally bike into a pool or something. vanillacat: Hae was just kind of like "O w O? Donghai is so handsome! Look, I can say that in Chinese yay!" But oh so adorable! ☆ Um, I might ship Minho/Donghae really, really hard. They are both really, really attractive and all over each other, it's basically the most adorable thing ever. And it'd be hot, okay. Don't lie. I'm going to stop staring at Donghae's thighs and resounding lack of ass now. (Eurgh, EunHae adorableness. Can I just ship their BFFery hardcore? 'Cause I really, really do. And while I'm OT: I really approve of how basically all of SJ is building up those biceps and abs. Yum. I like this trend, I doooo.) ☆ Also, I thought I should just mention: maybe I don't !!! enough over the rest of SJM on this journal (I tend to be, uh, Donghae-biased) but alskdghsdf every single one of them makes me smile so hard it hurts. They are all so attractive and hilarious and Geng should never stop being the cocky bastard he is in China, and Siwon should continue being the pervy foil to Geng, and Henry should be adorable and hot all while stealing underwear, and Ryeowook should continue being motherly and spastically precious and passive-aggressive about his SJM love, and Zhou Mi should sing for-fucking-ever with his mile-long legs and that smile augh (I could go on for days), and Kyuhyun should always laugh and lean into Mimi and be the most gorgeous thing ever. Cannot stop staring at QMi, all the time. Donghae should carry on as he does. ☆ The same thing applies for ships other than KiHae or QMi. I really, really, really fangirl HeeKyung, okay? Romantically, platonically, however. Their friendship is some of the most epic in the world and Heechul is amazingly loltastic. 05:52 pm meiface [Link]	so i just woke up from a nap /yawn I'm finished with all of my exams! I am officially halfway through with this whole law school business and pretty thrilled about it if I don't think too hard about the remaining 1.5 years, haha. To celebrate wrapping things up, I'm going to clean my apartment. Omg, you have no idea how awesome this will be. I love cleaning, okay? It produces instant, visible results, and I am all about that. Ahh the scent of chemicals in the air... I am also writing, hurray! None of you care but I'm going to talk about it anyway, it's how I roll. That stupid corporate AU inspired by the Sorry Sorry Answer MV has grown to ridiculous proportions. Longfic proportions! It's like my muse is trying to turn me into black_goose and I'm all: Are you kidding? I'm not insane like she is! I can't juggle 20+ longfic WsIP! I am too ADD for that! Sadly, this fic is >15,000 and going strong. It requires so, so much editing once I'm done with it though, oh my god. I also refuse to post it before it's done. But I also want to post it before the year's out. In conclusion: I will be writing like a crazy person for a while, and now that finals are over, I should finally have the time! Which, naturally, means that I will lose all motivation... Also working on some other things and have to sort out what I'm packing to take home with me on Saturday, because I actually have to do work over break. But I will be at home, and well-fed! I will see people, and also movies! That significantly improves life by a factor of 10. Repimping the time capsule meme because...hoyah did it? I basically live in a cave re: fandom, okay?
